Wexford Bike Week Events

 


The following are the events due to take place for Wexford Bike Week. This year Bike Week takes place from the 10th to the 18th of May 2025

All events are FREE (unless specifically stated in the event description)

SUNDAY 11th MAY  

BIKE FEST AND FAMILY SLOW ROLL IN GOREY TOWN PARK

A fun morning with bike themed events in Gorey Town Park, including a short Family Slow Roll in Gorey town in association with Gorey Pedestrian and Cycle Association.  Slow bike race; prizes for best dressed bike; face painting. Balance Bike Buddies will also be on hand to teach some basic cycling skills to younger children.  

Attendees are encouraged to ‘Bling your bike or sparkle your scooter,’ using ribbons, flags, repurposed materials and other items, to be in with a chance of winning a cycling-themed prize. 

Slow and steady will be the name of the game in the ‘Slow Bicycle Race,’ where participants in adult and child categories will compete to beat the slowest time and win a cycling-themed prize. 

Those who are curious about electric bicycles will have a chance to cycle one around the park and discover a great way to get around, without even breaking a sweat. 

A highlight of Gorey Bike Fest is a “Slow Roll,” a fun all-ages cycle from the park to the town centre and back again.  Everyone taking part will receive a refreshment voucher for The Coffee Pod.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and all participants must wear a helmet and high vis.

Location: Gorey Town Park and local streets of Gorey, Co. Wexford

Suitability: Competent cyclists only on the Slow Roll as this takes place on the public streets.  Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times

MONDAY 12TH MAY

PEDAL POWER – WOMEN’S CYCLING SKILLS PROGRAMME

Ladies, it’s time to get on your bike! Whether you're new to cycling or just looking to boost your confidence on two wheels, our "Pedal Power" women's cycling skills 6 weeks programme is perfect for you!

  • Build confidence & skills
  • Meet like-minded women
  • Enjoy the freedom of cycling

No experience? No problem! Our friendly instructors will guide you every step of the way.  Bikes provided also if required.

WEDNESDAY 14th MAY

WEBINAR: “PEDAL HAPPY” – WEXFORD & WORLD BIKE STORIES

Hear from 3 people who have used bikes to travel, or adventure, or commute, or spend more time with their kids  - or all of these!

What is the thread that runs through all their stories? – they pedal happy and they are all in WexBUG.

WexBUG ( www.wexbug.org ) is a group that wants to make cycling safer in Wexford so more people can pedal happy and pedal safe.

Tune in and you might get inspiration!

THURSDAY 15TH MAY

ADAPTED BIKE TASTER SESSION

This event is for those with limited mobility who would like to try out a variety of adapted bikes from trikes to tandems, handcycles to wheelchair platform bikes.  Anna Flynn will be on hand with her colleagues from Sports Active Wexford and Shielbaggan Outdoor Education Centre to assist participants try out a range of bikes suited to their particular needs.

Time: 10am to 3pm

Date: Thursday 15th May

Location: South East Greenway, Rosbercon, New Ross, County Wexford

Suitability: Adults with additional physical needs.  Booking essential as places limited.

FOULKSMILLS FAMILY FUN CYCLE

5km fun cycle starting and finishing in Foulksmills Park.  Refreshments afterwards in the park.  Cyclists must wear a helmet and hi vis and all children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.  Registration essential for this free event as numbers limited to ensure safety.

Time:  7.00pm 

Date: Thursday 15th May

Location: Meet at Foulksmills Park

Suitability: All fitness levels.  Everyone joining must have a roadworthy bicycle, a helmet, hi viz.  Limited spaces

FRIDAY 16th MAY

ADULT BMX TASTER SESSION

Bike buddies are holding an adult only BMX session at Riverchapel Community Complex, Wexford. There will be a BMX specific level 2 coach and a level 1 coach running this session.

The session will be for adults over the age of 18yrs, and is for adults who can cycle.

We have a limited number of bikes and helmets available for the session.

Time:  7.00pm to 8:30pm

BICYCLE STORY & CRAFT IN GOREY LIBRARY

Celebrate Bike Week 2025 with a fun bicycle themed story and craft session!

Children will enjoy some fun stories about cycling and make a bike-themed craft to bring home.  

Parents and guardians are asked to remain with children during this event.

Time:  3:30pm to 4:30pm

CYCLE RIGHT TRAINING & BIKE MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP

This Cycle Right Training Session will aim to provide practical skills and safety training to promote competent and confident cyclists. The session will provide participants with the skills needed to move as cyclists in complex, changing road environments and will inspire confidence to use your bike more often. Learn how to apply dynamic thinking, assess conditions and the environment on the road.

The Cycle Right Training will be immediately followed by a Bike Maintenance Workshop. Learn how to look after your bike, keep it in tip-top condition and how to ensure your bike remains safe and reliable for the next time you hit the road.

SATURDAY 17th MAY

CYCLE TO THE LIBRARY DAY – GOREY LIBRARY

Cycle to Gorey library on 17th May to claim a practical bike-related treat (while stocks last!)

Time:  During library opening hours of 10.30am – 5.30pm (closed for lunch 1-2)

SOUTH EAST GREENWAY FAMILY CYCLE

Wexford County Council and Sports Active Wexford in partnership with Kilkenny Recreation & Sports Partnership invite all families to join us in the South East Greenway Family Cycle. There will be two events on the day, both are geared towards family enjoyment of the South East Greenway. At 10am a family 12km cycle will start and this will be followed at 10.15 by a shorter 6km cycle.

CARGO BIKE & E-BIKE STREET DEMO

Find out all you need to know about e-bikes! WexBUG (Wexford Bike Users Group) and The Bike Shop will demonstrate Cargo bikes and e-bikes on Selskar Street, Wexford (at the Nicky Rackard staue).

BICYCLE BASICS

Do you want to increase your bicycle maintenance & safety knowledge?  “Bicycle Basics” with Barrow Bikes offers you the chance to improve your knowledge with and introduction to Road Safety, Bicycle Maintenance and Bicycle Repair including common gear issues, chain fitting and how to deal with punctures. The demonstration session will take place on Saturday 17th May at 2.30pm in the park outside New Ross Library (or in the Library building if the weather is inclement).

INTRO TO MOUNTAIN BIKING FOR ADULTS & TEENS

Get Off-Road & On Track during Bike Week. Whether you're brand new to the trail or ready to level up your skills, our “Intro to Mountain Biking” session is for YOU!

Perfect for:

  • Beginners who want to learn the basics

  • Intermediate riders looking to sharpen skills & gain confidence

  • Teens (13yrs - 17yrs) and adults who love a good adventure!

Come along for supportive vibes, fresh air, and plenty of laughs! 

Where: Forth Mountain, starting point at Carrigfoyle Lake

SUNDAY 18th MAY

BIODIVERSITY & GEOLOGY FAMILY CYCLE AT HOOK HEAD

Jim Hurley, naturalist and retired science teacher has a wealth of knowledge about Sout Wexford’s Coast biodiversity and geology.  The South Wexford Coast is one of Ireland’s outstanding natural heritage resources. Join Jim after the cycle to Hook Head for a short talk on the geology and natural features of the area.  Hook Head is of international importance for its outstanding fossils and geological formations. It is designated a Special Area of Conservation for a range of marine and coastal habitats including reefs and vegetated sea cliffs. 

Time:  11am – 1pm

Date:  Sunday 18th May 

Location: Hook Head – starting from the entrance to Hookless Village, cycling to Slade Harbour and then to Hook Lighthouse for Jim’s talk, returning back to Hookless Village.

Suitability: All children must be at least 10 years of age. Max of two children to one supervising adult. Participants must use a roadworthy bicycle. Hi-viz & helmets must be worn.

BIODIVERSITY BIKE RIDE GOREY

To celebrate the cross-over between Bike Week and Biodiversity Week, join Gorey Pedestrian & Cycling Association for their second Biodiversity Bike Ride in collaboration with the Wexford Environmental Network! Stopping at several key biodiversity sites and exploring how we can both appreciate and protect the Nature that surrounds us.

Suitable for all levels of cyclists - grab your bike, your curiosity, and let's pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future!

Date: Sunday 18th May
Time: 11am - 1pm
Meeting Point: TBC
Ending Point: Gorey Town Park (where we'll treat you to a drink from the Coffee Pod)
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
