Creative Ireland

Creative Ireland is a five-year initiative (2017 -2022) which places creativity at the centre of public policy.

This high level ambitious government initiative aims to mainstream creativity in the life of the nation and ensure that individuals and communities are supported to further develop talents, creative enterprises, cultural infrastructure and experiences.

At the heart of Creative Ireland is the principle of collaboration – between central and local government, between culture and industry, between artists and policy makers – to facilitate an ecosystem of creativity.  As part of this process all Local Authorities have produced local 5 Year Culture and Creativity Strategies (2018 – 2022).

Wexford County Council's strategy aims to bring coherence to the existing individual strategies of the local authority which have cultural significance including arts, libraries, heritage, economic and community planning.  It also provides a unique opportunity to align the work of members of the Culture Team across many sections of the local authority with the aim of developing collaborative practice and ensuring effective delivery.

This strategy acknowledges the intrinsic value of culture and creativity and its contribution to the wellbeing of our society.

Creative Ireland Podcasts

Wexford County Council commissioned an inaugural podcast to showcase some of the work being done across communities in County Wexford through their Creative Ireland programme.  This following episode is an interview with Deirdre Grant and Nick Day who delivered a collaborative music and dance project titled Moving Under Skies as part of the Creative Ireland programme in 2019.   It highlights the artistic process behind designing a collaborative and intergenerational project.

The music used during the interview is from Moving Under Skies and composed by Nick Day. The first piece is 'Human Geography', followed by 'On Chequered Lawns', and the final piece is 'Night Terrors'. The final performance of this project took place on Culture Night in the Wexford Art Centre. The interview was conducted by the writer and journalist Peter Murphy.
