Rate Me is a new play, devised from a series of workshops with twenty young Wexford women aged 13-18 years and follows the lives of four young women growing up in a small town in 21st Century Ireland.
The #metoo movement and recent public allegations of sexual misconduct have sparked much discussion about power and the abuses of power.
Rate Me is a piece of theatre that reflects on patriarchal power and how it is ingrained in society.
It’s about how young women navigate growing up in a world where you’re either ‘frigid’ or a ‘slut’;
It’s about consent and human rights and human wrongs; It’s about the fun and heartache of growing up; It’s about being rated and judged on how you look; It’s about love and the loss of innocence.
A funny, poignant, current and very important play.
Rate Me is written by Marnie McCleane-Fay and produced by Bare Cheek Theatre Company with the assistance of an Arts Council ‘Young Ensembles Award’; Wexford Arts Centre and Wexford County Council.
Formed in 1998, Bare Cheek Theatre Company has produced many plays on Wexford stages and around the country, delivered numerous Community Arts Projects in schools and Community Groups throughout County Wexford and in 2003 formed County Wexford Youth Theatre, with the invaluable support of Wexford County Council and the Arts Council.
