Wexford is a unique town, full of history, which combines the old and new, as well as having a unique blend of commercial, retail, cultural and leisure activities, all of which are reflected in the town’s urban structure and varied architecture. However, the lack of economic activity and investment, during the economic downturn, has manifested itself physically throughout the town, in a multitude of ways. This can be seen through the unplanned formation of several large under-utilised and derelict sites, which are strategically located within the town.
Wexford County Council recognises that there is an urgent need to do more to promote economic development and physical growth in Wexford, and to introduce measures that revitalise the town’s economy. It is with this in mind that Wexford County Council has commissioned an ‘Economic Development and Spatial Implementation Plan’ for the revitalisation of the Wexford Quay-Front Area. This report will provide innovative proposals which will greatly enhance the town’s physical attractiveness and well-being, as a place for people to work, shop, visit and live.
