Join Barry Lacey for this fascinating history talk about 'German bombers on the Blackstairs'.
During WW2 Ireland was only a young country recovering from its own independence struggle and bloody civil war.
While it remained neutral during WWII, this didn't make it invincible to the actions of War.
Even the remote Blackstairs Mountains experienced the effects which this talk will discuss.
We will learn how the Shannon family of Knockroe were awoken one night when their rural home was bombed by a German bomber and also how less than a year later a German bomber fell victim to the Blackstairs Mountain when it crashed near its summit.
The talk will be of particularly interest to any mountain walkers as both are located along regularly used routes.
