This series of talks is free and open to all but this talk in particular is aimed at Leaving Certificate students studying Macbeth. It will consider what motivates Macbeth to murder, and the extent of the influence of the Weird Sisters on his actions.
Making close reference to the dramatic text, Dr Úna Kealy will consider how Shakespeare leaves space in the iambic pentameter for shrieks of terror as Macbeth experiences psychological melt-down consumed by his vaulting ambition and tormented by his guilt and obsession.
While this might sound ‘clever but boring’, Dr Kealy brings a love of literature and a vivid memory of her own experience of state exams to support and encourage those reading Shakespeare for exams or pleasure.
