Interested in modern Irish history and current affairs?
Get a better understanding of a missing part of Ireland’s historical narrative from the viewpoint of different communities living on a border imposed between neighbours and family members.
These perspectives will include the experience of Ulster unionists in Monaghan consigned to the Irish Free state (The Sons of Levi); the nationalist community of south Armagh (The Chosen Fews); frontier loyalists from west Tyrone (Blood & Thunder); and a series of closely knit communities from both sides of the intricate south Ulster border running from Cavan through Fermanagh, Monaghan, Armagh and Tyrone.
Darach MacDonald, originally from Clones, Co. Monaghan, now lives in Derry city. The child of a marriage that linked Portadown, Clones, Limerick, Fermanagh and Cavan, among quite a few other places, he has spent most of his life flitting back and forth across the border. He is a professional journalist, the former editor of the Ulster Herald newspaper group and author of five books, mostly about the border.
