Boost to the entire region
Welcoming the news, Wexford County Council Director of Economic Development and Planning Services, Mr. Tony Larkin said “The decision of Aer Southeast to re-open these routes is a welcome boost to the entire region. Direct air services into the UK from the Southeast region are hugely important and Wexford County Council looks forward to playing its part in supporting these routes and promoting them to inbound and outbound passengers”.
Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council Councillor John Hegarty also welcomed the announcement. “The importance of air connectivity to this region has been underlined time and again by inward investment and economic development agencies” said Councillor Hegarty. “These routes will play a key role in bringing additional tourist revenues into the southeast region from the UK, so it is very good news to see that these routes are once again readily accessible.
CEO of Wexford Chamber of Commerce Madeline Quirke stressed the importance of the new routes for business in Wexford. “The UK visitor to the Southeast has always been hugely important for Wexford, be it for business of pleasure purposes, and these routes will be of tremendous help in sustaining recent welcome growth in these visitor numbers. Our members look forward to supporting Waterford Airport in the promotion of these new routes, which will significantly increase County Wexford’s potential to attract visitors from London, Manchester and Bermingham and the surrounding hinterlands.
Wexford County Council Chief Executive Tom Enright is a member of the Board of Waterford Airport, further evidence of the Council’s recognition of Waterford Airport’s regional importance and of its commitment to supporting and promoting the Airport into the future.
