Popular Enniscorthy playground re-opens following major refurbishment

On Friday evening next 4 August, Wexford County Council will officially re-open Enniscorthy’s much-loved Promenade Playground, following it’s major refurbishment. The ceremony will be performed jointly by Councillor John Hegarty, Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, and Councillor Keith Doyle, Chairman of Enniscorthy Municipal District.

The €80,000 refurbishment contract was completed by Wexford-based company Crawford Group, who specialise in the design and construction of children’s play areas, skate parks and multi-use games facilities. The Department of Children & Youth Affairs provided a grant of €20,000, while Wexford County Council invested the balance of €60,000 in the project.

New state-of-the-art attractions in the playground include a central play unit with the Play-Odyssey Senior Tower with “Gun Powder Store” at top level, 2 tunnel double poly slides and many other fun features which will offer children plenty of play value.  Specialist sensory and special needs equipment are also included, including eco-tube chimes, an inclusive & fully accessible multi-user wheelchair roundabout and a wheelchair-accessible swing, in addition to a number of other play pieces.

“The Council has consulted widely in relation to the new design features, including valuable input from Wexford’s Comhairle na nÓg”, said Councillor Hegarty. “The resulting design has transformed and re-invigorated Enniscorthy Promenade Playground, ensuring it will continue to offer an enjoyable, inclusive and safe environment for children to explore and play, for many years to come”

Councillor Keith Doyle added his congratulations to those involved in the project. “This destination playground is a fantastic amenity for local people to enjoy. It will also help to attract visitors to our beautiful town from County Wexford and further afield, adding a welcome dimension to Enniscorthy Town’s growing reputation as a must-see tourist destination”
