Craanford was honoured at the all-Ireland 2019 IPB Pride of Place awards held in Kilkenny on Saturday 30th November, 2019.
The village, including Monaseed and Hollyford, took top spot in the 300-1000 population category, beating off competition from Scotshouse, County Monaghan and Ballinahown, Co. Westmeath.
The judges said: "It was not just the many and varied initiatives and projects - and there were many - successfully undertaken by this go-ahead community that impressed the judges but also an underlying and all-embracing community spirit."
900 representatives from counties across Ireland gathered in the Lyrath Estate Hotel for the awards, hosted by Kilkenny County Council.
Sponsored by IPB, the Pride of Place competition was initiated 18 years ago through a Co-operation Ireland programme to acknowledge the invaluable work undertaken by volunteers and those involved in local community development.
It has grown into the largest competition recognising community development achievements in the island of Ireland.
Congratulations to a great community on a very well deserved win!
