Welcome from the Chief Executive

County Wexford has beautiful landscapes, abundant resources and welcoming
and resourceful people. The recent economic climate presented many
challenges for our county and our people. As we emerge from that difficult
period and having learnt some important lessons, we must now plan for a
Wexford which is resilient, dynamic and progressive. We must also ensure that
we cherish the resources and heritage which make Wexford the Model County.

The review of the Wexford County Development Plan 2013-2019 and the
preparation of the new County Development Plan is one of the most important
functions of the Council. The plan sets out the overall strategy for the proper
planning and sustainable development of the county. It also outlines the
Council’s own priorities for future development and contains objectives and
standards to ensure that new development is of the highest quality.

The County Development Plan will support and complement the recently
adopted Wexford Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP). The LECP

sets out the objectives and actions needed to promote and support the
economic development and the local and community development of the county
both by itself directly and in partnership with other economic and community
development stakeholders. The County Development Plan on the other hand is
a land use plan which will address issues such as settlement planning, town
and village development and renewal, housing, economic development and
employment, infrastructure and heritage. The plan must respond to issues such

as climate change, flooding and energy demand.
