Sports Active Wexford Volunteer Support and Club Training Grant 2026

This Volunteer Support grant is designed to support clubs in upskilling new and existing coaches and volunteers to increase participation in sport and physical activity. This will be done through the delivery of training and education courses to support volunteers in their development as coaches of sport and physical activity. 

This Grant Scheme aims:

  • to increase participation in Physical Activity and Sport

    • to improve the management and administration of clubs

    • to develop youth structures in clubs/organisations by providing sport and physical activity opportunities.

FUNDING AVAILABLE

Maximum funding €600 per Club/Organisation of which the Sports Active Wexford will fund 50% of the course costs and the Club/Organisation are required to match fund.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS MUST: 

Be registered to an NGB & based in County Wexford.

Operate as a “not for profit”. 

Have a club constitution or equivalent documentation that includes policies and practices that encourage participation regardless of gender, age, race or ability. 

Where the club has membership under the age of 18, the club must operate under best practice for children in sport and demonstrate certification in Child Protection & safeguarding. 

Clubs/groups must have suitable insurance cover in place. 

Demonstrate why the additional training and education is required 

Demonstrate how additional training and education would lead to continued participation in sport and physical activity. 

Applicant group/ club must have a bank account in the club/ group/ organisations name. 

WHAT APPLICATIONS ARE INELIGIBLE FOR THIS SCHEME? 

Applications from individuals 

National/Regional/County Governing Bodies/ Statutory agencies 

For profit groups/commercial organisations 

Private facility owners 

Clubs not affiliated with a National Governing Body 

Club affiliation fees and travel costs. 

Costs such as entertainment or prizes 

Applications from community organisations/ schools not linked with a club 

 

ELIGIBLE COURSES (MAY INCLUDE): 

Sports specific Coach Education (e.g. Athletics, Basketball, Gaelic, Soccer). 

Committee and / or Volunteer education, Administration & management courses 

Sport Ireland Coaching courses e.g. Coaching Children, Physical Literacy, Coaching Girls, Coaching Young people. 

Personal Development (leadership roles, governance, organizational skills, building self-esteem and confidence etc) 

Active Disability Ireland – Autism in Sport, Sports Inclusion & disability awareness workshop. 

 

 

INELIGIBLE COURSES (WILL INCLUDE): 

Courses outside the Island of Ireland

Sport related courses delivered by bodies not recognized under the National Coaching Development Programme or by the National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGB’s) if one exists. 

Generic sports courses delivered by a non-recognized agency 

Day to day running costs (e.g. insurance, transport) 

Courses not directly related to applicant club/ organization e.g. team building. 

Safe guarding courses

 

NOTE: 

We will not accept applications for events/programmes that have already taken place. 

In deciding the final allocations of funding to projects, Sports Active Wexford may take account of several factors including geographical balance and the desirability to fund a variety of different projects and the relative disadvantage of the area where the facility is located (or will serve). 

The right is reserved to reassign the funds offered to another approved project if all requirements are not met within a reasonable period. 

Sports Active Wexford reserve the right to carry out an audit of expenditure on all funded event/programmes. 

Offers of funding may be for a lesser amount than that sought by the applicant. Applicants should be aware that the programme may be oversubscribed. Therefore, in such circumstances, all applications fulfilling the conditions may not be successful or may be for a lesser amount.
