Lady’s Island Lake
Lady’s Island Lake is located in South Wexford. It is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) for lagoon and other habitats, and as a Special Protection Area (SPA) for a number of bird species, including four species of Terns that nest on islands in the lake.
In terms of water quality, nutrient pollution and organic pollution from agriculture, along with altered habitat due to morphological changes, have been identified by the EPA during its initial characterisation as significant pressures in Lady’s Island. Lady’s Island has also been selected as a Priority Area for Action for restoration under the WFD third cycle as part of the Wexford Coastal Lagoons project.
