What is Wexford Local Community Safety Partnership (Wex LCSP)?

Wex LCSP was set up following a national recommendation that community safety is everyone’s responsibility—not just An Garda Síochána.
It brings together public services, community groups, and local representatives to work on safety issues in Wexford.
It was officially established on 8 September 2025.

What is community safety?

Community safety means people being safe—and feeling safe—in their local area.

What is the mission of Wex LCSP?

Working towards a safer community where everybody including the marginalised and most vulnerable have the right to feel safe and to be safe 

What is the vision of Wex LCSP?

To provide a multi-agency and community-based approach in examining local safety issues and through stakeholder accountability, respond with clearly defined actions to deliver a safer and more sustainable community for all

Who are the members?

The Partnership has 30 members, including:

  • County Councillors
  • An Garda Síochána
  • HSE and TUSLA representatives
  • Wexford County Council
  • Community organisations and residents

Members are nominated by relevant organisations and officially appointed by the Minister.

Can I become a member?

Members serve for 3 years.
Opportunities to join will be advertised via the PPN, and people with an interest in community safety can apply and will be considered.

How does it work?

Wex LCSP:

  • Consults with the public
  • Identifies local safety issues
  • Creates a 3-year Community Safety Plan
  • Carries out actions based on that plan

How often does it meet?

At least 6 times a year.

Are meetings open to the public?

Yes—at least one meeting per year is open to the public.

Can I view meeting agendas and minutes?

How can I raise a local issue?

You can contact your local council representative on the Partnership.

What replaced Joint Policing Committees?

They were replaced by Local Community Safety Partnerships under the 2024 legislation.

What is a Local Community Safety Plan?

A 3-year plan that:

  • Sets out local safety priorities
  • Includes practical actions
  • Is based on public consultation
  • Is published for the public

What are the main priorities?

Wex LCSP focuses on five key areas:

  1. Perception – Improve understanding of community safety
  2. Promotion – Share positive messages and information
  3. Participation – Encourage community involvement
  4. Prioritisation – Identify and act on key issues
  5. Prevention – Stop problems early

Is funding available for community projects?

Yes. The Community Safety Fund supports local projects.
Applications usually open April–May via www.justice.ie.

Who manages Wex LCSP?

A Coordinator and Administrator from Wexford County Council manage its work.

Who is Wex LCSP accountable to?

The National Office for Community Safety within the Department of Justice.
