Hook Peninsula Sustainable Energy Community launch 22nd October 2024

Hook Peninsula Sustainable Energy Community launched the Hook Peninsula Energy Master Plan on Tuesday 22nd October 2024 in St Mary’s Hall, Fethard.

The launch event included an energy clinic and expo, with Energy Advisors providing advice on home energy upgrades and tips for achieving savings on ESB bills. The SEAI provided information on the various grants, with exhibition stands by specialist contractors in solar, insulation and heat pumps.

In 2023, the Hook Peninsula Sustainable Energy Community (SEC), a voluntary group, was established. The SEC was established with the aim of fostering community engagement and support in steering the Hook peninsula towards a low-carbon future. Hook Peninsula SEC is affiliated with a larger network of SECs across the twenty-six counties. This network is overseen by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), which extends guidance, mentorship, and facilitates access to grant support.

The Energy Master Plan (EMP):

1. Assesses the existing energy status within our community to establish a baseline for electrical, thermal, and transportation energy demands.
2. Identifies renewable energy sources already present within the community.
3. Incorporates a Register of Opportunities, detailing potential projects for enhancing
energy efficiency and adopting renewable energy solutions.
4. Defines appropriate projects for the initial three-year period and establishes targets for reducing energy consumption based on the baseline data.
