Wexford Heritage Plan, Public Consultation

Wexford County Council has established a Heritage Forum to advise it on the preparation and implementation of a Local Authority Heritage Plan. The aim of the Heritage Plan is to protect, conserve and where appropriate enhance the natural, built and cultural heritage of the county and to encourage all to appreciate, enjoy, understand and care for our heritage. A Draft Discussion Paper on the Heritage Plan has been prepared which provides more information. It can be found below:

The Heritage Forum is seeking your assistance with the preparation of the Heritage Plan.

The Heritage Act 1995 includes: monuments, archaeological objects, heritage objects, architectural heritage, flora, fauna, wildlife habitats, landscapes, seascapes, wrecks, geology, heritage gardens and parks, and inland waterways.

Intangible cultural heritage such as songs, poetry, folklore, traditional crafts, language and sport are also included in our definition of heritage.

You are invited to participate in the consultation process and avail of the opportunity to identify heritage issues and needs at local level and to discuss mechanisms to address them locally. All interested individuals and organisations are welcome to make submissions.

The public consultations will be held in the following venues:

Enniscorthy Library, August 11th, 11am - 1pm

New Ross Library, August 12th, 11am - 1pm

Gorey Library, August 12th, 5.30pm - 7.30pm

Stella Maris Centre, Kilmore Quay, August 13th, 2pm - 4pm

Wexford Library, August 14th, 5pm - 7pm

Online Survey

Your views can also be expressed through an online survey, details of which can be found here https://consult.wexfordcoco.ie/en/content/heritage-plan-survey

Written submissions are invited and should be received by the Heritage Forum by the 25th of August 2025. Written/email submissions can be addressed to Wexford County Council’s Heritage Officer, Colm Moriarty.
