The Summer Stars Reading Programme is back in Wexford Libraries this Summer to spark a love of reading in children across the County.
Summer Stars is the free public library national summer reading programme for children. It runs from June 2nd - August 29th. Children throughout Wexford are invited to join the adventure and enjoy reading some of the great books and eBooks available to borrow for free from libraries in Wexford, Enniscorthy, New Ross, Bunclody and Gorey.
Summer Stars is non-competitive. Every child who reads even one book/e-book is regarded as having completed the programme!
To join Summer Stars, all you need to do is visit the library with your child and register them from June 2nd.
Children can read or listen to any books, eBooks, eAudiobooks, graphic novels, comics and magazines which are all available to borrow for free from Wexford Libraries.
A special Summer Stars collection is also available on BorrowBox, the free library app offering eBooks and eAudiobooks to all library members - eBooks and eAudiobooks - BorrowBox App / Wexford County Council (wexfordcoco.ie)
Take a look at the selection of digital graphic novels and comics which are all available to borrow for free from Wexford Libraries through the Libby website or app.
Taking part in the Summer Stars Reading Adventure encourages children to keep reading during the school holidays. This helps them to maintain and improve their reading levels over the Summer holidays from school. Children who read over the Summer months have a significant advantage over children who don’t when they start school again in late August/early September.
Children can track their reading and take part in fun library events and activities along the way. Participating children can set reading goals for themselves and will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the summer.
There might even be some rewards along the way!
