Wexford Libraries offer a large selection of free resources to help support children with dyslexia and those who struggle with reading.
All resources are free to use with a library card.
Readers – Series of books graded at different levels to build the confidence of children learning to read. Library staff can help with finding the best level for each child.
Barrington Stoke – Hi-Lo (High Interest Age Low Reading Age) stories written by well-known authors; this series uses dyslexia friendly font and tinted paper to help build reading confidence and fluency.
QR Code Books – These support independent multi-sensory reading by linking printed pages to the audiobook version.
The Fact Factory Magazine – Magazine series with a digital reader pen to scan words and read text out loud.
eBooks – These allow readers to adjust the font, line spacing size and background colour to make words easier to see and read. Tap and hold words to discover their meaning as you read.
C-Pens – A scanning pen that reads words or text aloud, to help assist in independent reading and promote confidence.
TTRS – Touch Type Read & Spell is a digital programme designed to develop typing, spelling and reading skills for learners aged 7+.
Nessy – An online game-based educational programme for learners aged 6+ designed to develop spelling, reading, grammar and writing skills.
Reading Eggs – A learn to read programme from pre-reading age onwards. This offers colourful multisensory activity games to develop to assist the development of essential literacy skills.
Graphic Novels – Colourful illustrations offer clues to help the reader understand the story. Short chunks of text are easier to read and encourage the reader, finish the book, and develop a love of reading.
