Music Generation

Music Generation Wexford (MG Wexford) is part of Ireland’s National Performance Music Education (PME) program. It is co-funded locally by the Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board and Wexford County Council, with national support from U2, the Ireland Funds, and the Department of Education. MG Wexford’s mission is to provide every child in County Wexford with access to high-quality music education, empowering young people through creative engagement.

Since 2018, MG Wexford has delivered subsidized, child-focused music programmes led by professional musicians, ensuring inclusivity for all socio-economic backgrounds. Its programmes prioritize accessibility, sustainability, and collaboration, including partnerships with 24 primary schools.

Programmes:

  • Early Years Programme – Partnership with Mini Maestros
  • Singing Programme – Primary & Secondary Schools
  • Instrumental Programme – Primary & Secondary Schools
  • Community Hubs: Bunclody Music Hub, Gorey Youth Jam, Wexford Youth Opera
  • Workshops: CAMHS Songwriting & Music Sessions, Summer Song Lab, Youthreach Workshops
  • Specialized Groups: Yellow Bellows (Youth Singing), Wexford Wind Jammers, Uke N Play, Bunclody Traveller Girls Singing Group

School-Based Programmes:

  1. Singing Programme: A whole-class initiative incorporating traditional, choral, and pop styles, using Kodály methodologies to develop musicianship.
  2. Instrumental Programme: Offers group tuition during school hours, with access to over 4,000 instruments from the Music Instrument Bank.

Partnerships:

MG Wexford also collaborates with community and youth organizations to bring music education to diverse settings:
Gorey Youth Needs: Tailored music programmes fostering creativity and self-expression.

  • CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services): Therapeutic workshops supporting young people’s mental health through songwriting, music-making, and performance.
  • Wexford Local Development (WLD): Breaking socio-economic barriers by delivering music education to underserved communities.

Through these collaborations, MG Wexford ensures inclusive, impactful programmes that address educational and social needs across County Wexford.
