Creative Ireland Wexford Open Call Awards 2023

Wexford County Council is very pleased to announce that 9 cultural organisations and artists’ collectives throughout the county have been awarded funding through Creative Ireland Wexford Open Call 2023. These awards are for innovative programmes that develop creative thinking around the key strategy areas of well-being, placemaking and climate action.

Successful applications include:
•    X-Gap (The Gap Arts Festival): a new Christmas performance piece developed between North Wexford communities and artists Honor Heffernan and Garrett Keogh;
•    The Ways of Water (artists Andi McGarry, Jeni Roddy, Lynn Haughton, Conall Geoghegan: boat building workshops at Kilmore Quay Community Gardens and Stella Maris Centre that use found and natural materials to address sustainable living within the adjacent watery landscape;
•    Ghost House (Spooky Before): a county-wide storytelling project that draws from supernatural, spiritual and unexplained experiences in the home to explore mental health and wellbeing;

Elizabeth Howard, the Creative Communities Engagement Officer for Creative Ireland Wexford says: ‘The Creative Ireland Wexford Programme encourages the use of creativity and creative thinking to address all sorts of issues. Our 2023 Open Call projects offer artists and communities an opportunity to connect with each other, and work towards strengthening the environmental, heritage and economic assets that are intrinsic to life in County Wexford’.

John Fleming Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council adds: ‘Wexford County Council is delighted to make this investment in our artists and communities. The Creative Ireland Programme feeds directly into our County Development Plan, and people from all over Wexford will benefit from these awards. Together we take positive steps showcasing Wexford as being a great place to live, work and visit’.
A total of €70,751 was invested in local communities through these awards.
