Wexford County Council’s Climate Action & Biodiversity Fortnight 2026 is about raising awareness on actions and measures we can all do at a personal and local level and to showcase some of the projects and initiatives underway across our County.
The fortnight serves as a platform to inspire action and drive positive change at local level. Attendance to the Climate Action & Biodiversity Fortnight events is free, with booking required for some events.
The following events, listed in date order, are scheduled to take place throughout Climate Action & Biodiversity Fortnight 2026.

Saturday, 9th May |

Join us for a guided street cycle around Wexford town to help you build your cycling confidence. Bring your own bike or use the Bolt bike-share scheme. This is a great way to familiarise yourself with the main cycling routes around Wexford town and chat with like-minded people over a coffee and a bun.Starting at St Peter’s Square, along School St & John St, down Hill St, Redmond Square, along the Quay, King St, finishing at Kellys Corner Food Yard. Under 18s must be accompanied by a cycling adult (one child per adult). Participants must be 10 years old or over. Helmets and hi-viz must be worn. Time: 10am – 11.30am |

A fun morning with bike themed events in Gorey Town Park, including a slow bike race, balance bike games, prizes for best dressed bike, face painting and a short family cycle in Gorey town. A highlight of Gorey Bike Fest is a “Slow Roll Cycle” - a fun, all-ages cycle from the park to the town centre and back again (2.5km). Everyone taking part will receive a refreshment voucher for The Coffee Pod.Children must be accompanied by a cycling adult and all participants must wear a helmet and high vis. No scooters or bikes with stabilisers. Time: 11am – 1pm |

Sunday, 10th May |
| Join us for a leisurely cycle on the South East Greenway. Starting from the greenway car park in Rosbercon, New Ross and heading towards Glenmore, the cycle will be at a relaxed pace, taking in the beautiful scenery of the Barrow valley. Refreshments will be served afterwards in Rosbercon. No bike? No problem! Limited adult bikes available to borrow (must book in advance when registering online). Monday, 11th May |

Join us for a 3km walk as we explore part of the Kilmore Quay Walking Trail with local naturalist Jim Hurley. With frequent stops, the leisurely guided tour takes two hours, walking on paths, grass, dunes, and the beach. The focus will be on natural heritage, biodiversity, local history, examples of the impacts of climate change, proposed climate action, and more. Tea / Coffee and light refreshments will be served following the event. Admission is free and all are welcome. Time: 11am – 1pm |

Have you been a little curious but never tried a Bolt bike or scooter? Try one out for free and learn how convenient the Bolt app is to use. One-to-one tuition provided. Time: Drop by between 12.30pm and 2.30pm |

Find out all you need to know about e-bikes! WexBUG (Wexford Bike Users Group) and The Bike Shop will demonstrate Cargo bikes and e-bikes on Selskar Street, Wexford (at the Nicky Rackard statue). Time: 11am – 1pm |

5km fun cycle starting and finishing in Foulksmills Park. Refreshments afterwards in the park. Cyclists must wear a helmet and hi vis and all children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Registration is essential for this free event as numbers are limited to ensure safety. Time: 7pm |

To celebrate the cross-over between Bike Week and Biodiversity Week, for the third year running Gorey Pedestrian and Cycling Association will be hosting a Biodiversity Bike Ride through Gorey Town. We'll make stops at several key biodiversity sites and explore how we can both appreciate and protect the Nature that surrounds us. Suitable for competent cyclists age 10+ so grab your bike, your curiosity, and let's pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future! Don't forget to bring your helmet, hi-viz, water bottle, and enthusiasm for nature! Time: 11am – 1pm |

Tomhaggard Clean Coasts invites you to join them for a guided Dusk Chorus Walk & Talk with Ornithologist Cian Cardiff, followed by light refreshments. Meet at Sigginstown Castle at 7.30pm where the group will set off for the walk to Tacumshane Lake at 8pm. Admission is free and all are welcome; it is recommended to bring a set of binoculars. The Gorey Bat Group invites you to an evening of learning about our local native bat species, their habits and habitats this Biodiversity Week. Time: 7pm – 8pm |

Done Deal will present on the dos and don’ts of buying a new or second-hand EV. A panel discuss will then take place with three motorists who have different types of EV’s – A full EV with long battery range, an older EV with short battery range and an EV hybrid. Time: 7pm – 8.15pm |

Thursday, 21st May |
|
Join us on this scenic walking trail through the Tintern demesne which boasts stunning views of the Cistercian monastery. Along the way, some biodiversity measures will be identified by members of the Tintern walking group. Location: Walk starts & finishes at The Vine Pub Car Park.
