Physical Activity Promotion Grant 2026

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROMOTION GRANT 2026

1.         GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE SCHEME:

This Grant Scheme aims:

To support the Community Groups & Sports Clubs small grant scheme will provide funding which will enable groups to further provide sports and physical activity opportunities with their communities.

Sports Active Wexford will provide some financial resources to assist in the achievement of these objectives in meeting its own strategic aims.

The key outcome is to provide support for clubs and organisations to provide a long-term commitment for the development of sport in their community.

 

2. FUNDING:

Maximum funding; €500 per Club/Organisation 

All applications and invoices will be reviewed for their validity in respect to the grants purpose.

Please Note:

Offers of funding may be for a lesser amount than that sought by the applicant. 

Applicants should be aware that the programme may be oversubscribed. Therefore, in such circumstances, all applications fulfilling the conditions may not be successful or may be for a lesser amount.

 

3. WHO CAN APPLY?

Clubs/Organisations that are based in County Wexford

Clubs/Organisations that are affiliated to the National Governing Body or appropriate agency (written confirmation is needed i.e. copy of affiliation document)

Clubs/Organisations that operate as “not for profit” and is open to public membership.

Clubs/Organisations that have a primary objective of sport or physically active recreation.

Clubs/Organisations that have policies and practices that encourage participation regardless of gender, age, race or ability

Clubs/Organisations that operate under the basis of best practice for children in sport – representatives of the club/organisation must have attended a Safeguarding course within the last 3 years – new clubs must commit to attending training within the coming year.

Have adhered to the Governance code laid down by Sport Ireland.

 

4. WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

Individuals

National/regional/county governing bodies

For profit groups/commercial organisations

Applicants eligible for funding under other schemes will not be considered e.g. Age & Opportunity-Go for Life

 

5. INELIGIBLE COSTS:

Any project, equipment not in keeping with the ethos of the Programme. 

  • Employment costs 
  • Capital Costs (building or equipment installation)
  • Legal fees 
  • CCTV equipment /IT equipment relevant to the running of clubs/organisations
  • Project management fees 
  • Purchase of lands or buildings 
  • Feasibility studies 
  • Private or commercial operations
  • Costs which are being paid for by another funder or department 
  • Lighting, heating, insurance, and other running costs
  • Trips to events, including camping or other venues.

 

6. PROJECTS THAT WILL BE CONSIDERED:

Introduction of new sports projects/initiatives for target groups where opportunities do not already exist. 

Projects/initiatives that cater for people with disabilities.

Projects which reflect a wide geographical spread

Projects which provide for a significant number of participants (mass participation) i.e. walking clubs, fun runs, come and try days

Outdoor education/water sports projects for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds

New initiatives/sports clubs promoting participation in sport and physical activity by groups with low participation rates - girls, after school clubs, community groups & sports clubs who are supporting physical activity opportunities for migrant communities.

Performance opportunities for young people 

Equipment and specific resource hire which support the above.

     

7. SELECTION CRITERIA 

Applications will be evaluated by LSP to ensure eligibility and that they are targeted at addressing a physical need where possible. This scheme is not confined to organisations supporting disadvantaged communities only. Projects must be in keeping with the ethos of the programme, which is to provide funding to communities across County Wexford to enhance physical activity opportunities. 

Projects may also be judged having regard to how they: 

▪ Support local groups and clubs, which have continued to serve their community. 

▪ Support the creation of a sense of place within the community.

▪ Additional consideration will be given to applicants who wish to provide sports and 

physical activity opportunities to people with disabilities, those in areas of disadvantage and supporting migrant communities.

 

8. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS TO SPORTS ACTIVE WEXFORD:

Please submit the following information with your application:

The application form is detailed and is designed to ensure that it has the necessary 

information to evaluate each proposal accurately and fairly.

 

Written evidence that your Club/Organisation is affiliated to an NGB or Overarching    organisation.  The club is compliant with the Governance Code   https://www.governancecode.ie/

 

9. APPROVAL PROCEDURES 

In deciding the final allocations of funding to projects, LSP may take account of several factors including geographical balance and the desirability to fund a variety of different projects and the relative disadvantage of the area where the facility is located (or will serve)

 

The right is reserved to reassign the funds offered to another approved project if all 

requirements are not met within a reasonable period. 

The LSP reserve the right to carry out an audit of expenditure. 

 

Payment of Physical Activity Grant:

 

If your application is successful payment of grant in respect of approved project will be paid on completion of the authorised project and all criteria received. If the project is not carried out and the grant is not claimed before Friday 6th November, 2026, the grant offer will be withdrawn.
