Community Placemaking and Heritage Project in Killane

The ‘Great Book of Killanne’ will explore and celebrate the heritage of Killanne, capturing a moment in time through the creation of a unique large format handmade book.

Working with residents of all ages in Killanne, the project will take a collaborative approach to creativity through workshops and events that will respond to local interests, explore existing skills, learn, and build confidence, while acquiring new skills. Workshops will focus on design, painting, calligraphy and there will also be two portrait painting events of local community members.

People of the community, of all ages and abilities will be facilitated by artists Mick O'Dea and Liz Rackard in exploring their own unique connection to Killanne and what the village and area means to them. Workshops will allow time for discussion, brainstorming, art making, trial and error with art materials and eventually the translation of ideas onto the pages that will be bound together to create the book. The book will be bound by a professional bookbinder and presented to the community in November 2026.

Sound Project at the Cultural Biodiversity and Heritage Trail at Carnsore Wind Farm

This community-led project will bring local people together to create a series of six original audio soundscapes for the Carnsore Biodiversity and Cultural Heritage Trail. Through workshops and recording sessions, participants will share their knowledge, memories and experiences of Carnsore, exploring its wildlife, changing environment, cultural heritage and the stories that shape the area.

Working with artist Connor Duggan, community members and creative contributors will gather environmental recordings from across the wind farm landscape, capturing the sounds of wind, wildlife, water, vegetation, human activity and renewable energy infrastructure. These recordings will be combined with music and spoken contributions from local people to create immersive audio experiences rooted in place.

The project will support participants to record, reflect on and creatively interpret the sounds and stories of Carnsore. The finished soundscapes will be accessible to visitors of the trail, offering a deeper connection to the natural and cultural life of the area through local voices and perspectives.

A series of public events will share the work through live talks and audio-visual performances inspired by the sounds and stories gathered throughout the process. Together, the project will celebrate Carnsore's distinctive character while preserving local knowledge, ecological awareness and community memory for future generations.

Artist in Residence for Eadan’s Glen Housing Estate, Ferns

This creative placemaking project will bring together residents of Eadan's Glen estate and the wider Ferns community to help shape a shared identity for the new development. Through a series of creative activities, participants will explore the idea of the 'Spirit of Eadan's Glen' – a guardian figure inspired by the area's landscape, history, folklore and people.

The project will include creative workshops, focus groups, public engagement events and a digital survey, leading to the creation of a high-quality publication and a new visual identity that will be used throughout the estate, helping to create a strong sense of place and belonging.

Using the creative prompt, 'Imagine the Spirit of Eadan's Glen', people of all ages will be invited to imagine, describe, discuss and draw what they think the spirit of the glen might look like. Storytelling, poetry and conversation will help capture local ideas, memories and imagination.

Led by artist Jeffrey Gormly, the project will also involve local storytellers and people with knowledge of Ferns' history, heritage and natural environment. Their stories and ideas will help inspire the creative work, ensuring the final publication and artwork reflect the unique character of Eadan's Glen and the people who call it home.

One Sea – One Sky

One Sea | One Sky is a week-long community creative project led by Tomhaggard Clean Coasts, bringing together local volunteers, families, schools and community groups in Kilmore Quay to celebrate and care for their coastal environment through creativity, learning and shared action.

Working alongside professional artists, participants will take part in shoreline safaris, beach cleans and creative workshops, collecting and repurposing beach plastics, fishing rope, oyster bags and other recovered materials. Along the way, they will learn about marine biodiversity, microplastics, the circular economy and the importance of dark skies for wildlife.

Together, the community will create a large suspended crab sculpture from reclaimed materials, celebrating Kilmore Quay's rich coastal heritage while highlighting the importance of protecting our seas and shoreline.

The project encourages people of all ages to work together, build new skills and see waste as a valuable resource. It promotes environmental awareness, community pride and positive action for the future.

The week will culminate in the installation of the sculpture at the Stella Maris Centre in Kilmore Quay, followed by a community celebration on 5th September with storytelling, music, lighting and refreshments. A follow-on workshop with local groups will ensure the skills, creativity and environmental messages developed through the project continue to benefit the community long after the event.

Wexford Voices

Wexford Voices is a youth-led digital media and social media platform designed to amplify the stories, perspectives and creative work of Traveller and other marginalised young people across County Wexford.

The project builds on the momentum of existing youth podcasting and storytelling initiatives, including local work such as the “Good, Bad, and Ugly” podcast series, and develops that energy into a more visible, structured and sustainable digital media hub.

The project will move participants from one-off content creation towards community broadcasting: planning stories, recording interviews, producing short-form digital media, managing social channels safely, and learning how to distribute content so it reaches peers, families, schools, youth services, local stakeholders and the wider Wexford public.

Over a 4-to-6-month pilot, an experienced facilitator will work with youth participants through local partner FDYS Youth Service, in a number of venues throughout the county to establish the Wexford Voices identity, deliver practical workshops, support content production, publish selected outputs, and leave behind a clear operating framework for continuation beyond the initial funding period.

The life and times of travelling people as seen through the eyes of Willie ‘The Tinker’ O’Connor

This heritage project will preserve and share the remarkable life story of a member of the Traveller community from New Ross through the digitisation and publication of his handwritten diaries.

Spanning from childhood to retirement, the diaries offer a unique first-hand account of family life, work, travel and the lived experiences of an Irish Traveller over many decades. They provide a valuable insight into Traveller culture, traditions and history, while documenting the challenges, resilience and achievements experienced throughout his life.

As part of the project, the diaries will be professionally digitised and combined with a full transcription, making them accessible online through the County Archive website. A limited edition publication will also be produced for County Wexford libraries, the County Archive, Pavee Point and the diarist's family, ensuring that this important personal history is preserved for future generations.

The project will also record and explain traditional Cant words and expressions featured throughout the diaries, helping to preserve an important element of Traveller language and cultural heritage.

By safeguarding and sharing this unique personal story, the project will celebrate Traveller heritage and ensure that an important part of County Wexford's social history is accessible to all.

Here Together

This participatory photography project brings together older members of the Gorey and Courtown community with residents of the Courtown Hotel IPAS Centre, creating opportunities to build connections, share experiences and strengthen community relationships through a creative process.

Through a series of collaborative photography workshops led by photographer JP Keating, participants will explore visual storytelling while documenting aspects of their own lives, interests, local surroundings and everyday experiences. The workshops will encourage participants to express their perspectives, develop new skills and learn from one another in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Participants will continue to develop their own photographic projects throughout the programme, supported by mentoring and group reflection sessions that encourage confidence, creativity and peer learning. A follow-up workshop will provide an opportunity to review, refine and prepare their work for public exhibition.

As part of the project, environmental portraits of participants in places that are meaningful to them will complement the participant-created work, celebrating individual stories while highlighting the diversity and shared experiences within the wider community.

The project will culminate in a public exhibition and community celebration in Christchurch, Gorey on 18th September as part of Culture Night. The exhibition will showcase the participants' work and provide a welcoming space for conversation around themes of home, belonging, resilience and community.
