Archaeological Heritage

Archaeological built heritage comprises the remains of the sites of past societies. In Co. Wexford over 60 different monument types have been identified by the Archaeological Survey of the OPW. Examples of these sites are megalithic monuments, earthworks, castles, churches, ringforts and industrial sites.

Archaeological heritage is legally protected by inclusion in the statutory Record of Monuments and Places, established under Section 12 of the National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994.

Further information on Archaeological Heritage can be found at the website of the National Monuments Service at www.archaeology.ie
