Wexford County Council Forward Planning Team had previously commenced work on the preparation of a pre-draft Wexford Town Local Area Plan. Following the enactment of the Planning and Development Act 2024 (as amended), and in advance of the preparation of a County Development under that Act, this plan will now proceed as Proposed Variation No. 3 to the Wexford County Development Plan 2022 - 2028.
The Proposed Variation will provide the planning framework for the sustainable growth and development of Wexford Town and its environs. It will set out land use zoning objectives and identify the infrastructure needed to support both future development and existing communities.
The Proposed Variation will also include:
- An Urban Design Strategy;
- A Master Plan for the Ballynagee area;
- A Rainwater Management Plan; and
- A Strategic Flood Risk Assessment.
In preparing the Proposed Variation, Wexford County Council will have regard to the consultation process already undertaken at Pre-Draft Stage, including the reports prepared and submissions received. The associated documents can be found in the box below.
A further opportunity to engage in the statutory process will arise during the public consultation on Proposed Variation No. 3. This will include public information events and the opportunity to make written submissions and observations. Further details on this will be made available on the website and social media in due course.
The Proposed Variation will also be subject to Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA), in accordance with the Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive and the Habitats Directive, to ensure environmental considerations are fully integrated into the plan-making process.
