Types of Works Supported by the Grant

All residents of the house should be 66 or over.

  • Re-roofing 
  • Re-wiring
  • Provision of central heating where none exists
  • Windows and doors in some circumstances

There is no grant available under this scheme for upgrading an existing central heating system or insulation. Grants may be available from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.

Works should not have commenced before an application has been made or before written approval for the grant has been received.

Is the Grant Means Tested?

Yes. Applications are assessed on the basis of household income. Full details are included in the application form below.

Household income is calculated as the annual gross income of the registered property owner, together with all household members over 18 (or over 23 if in full-time education) in the previous tax year.

All applicants are required to include, with their application, proof that they are compliant with the Local Property Tax.

Who Should Apply?

Applicants should be 66 years of age or older and should be

  • living on their own 
  • or with a spouse aged 66 years of age or older
  • or with another person 66 years of age or older  

Applicants should be residing in the property for at least 5 years.
