Extension of Duration

An Extension of Duration can be applied for in the case of a previously granted Planning application where the works have commenced. An Extension of Duration can extend the term of your Planning permission by up to five years. You can only apply for an Extension of Duration within one year and forty-five days of the expiry of your original Planning application, and you must still adhere to the plans and conditions of the original granted application. A statutory fee of €62 must accompany any Extension of Duration application.

An Extension of Duration application will take eight weeks to be decided, as long as no additional information is requested. Details regarding the progress of the project and reasons why it could not be completed within the original timeframe will be requested.

If you are approaching the end of your term of Planning permission and wish to apply for an Extension of Duration, you may download the application form here or apply online here.
