Bike Week 2026 takes place from 9th – 17th May 2026. Wexford County Council, together with partner organisations, is delighted to host a range of FREE cycling activities for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or just enjoy a relaxed spin with family and friends, there’s something for everyone during this week-long celebration of cycling

FRIDAY 8th MAY |
ADAPTED BIKE TASTER SESSIONS
This event is for those with limited mobility who would like to try out a variety of adapted bikes from trikes to tandems, tri-shaws to wheelchair platform bikes. Shielbaggan Outdoor Education Centre will be on hand to assist participants try out a range of bikes suited to their particular needs. |

INTRO TO MOUNTAIN BIKING FOR TEENAGERS
Get Off-Road & On Track during Bike Week. Whether you're brand new to the trail or ready to try mountain biking for the first time, our “Intro to Mountain Biking” session is for YOU! Guided by qualified tutors from WWETB, this FREE event is perfect for teens (13yrs - 17yrs) who love a good adventure! All bikes and equipment will be provided – just bring a packed lunch and a drink. WEXFORD TOWN STREET CYCLE
Have you got a bike in the shed? Did you used to cycle to school or work when you were younger but have given up the habit? Or, with rising fuel prices, are you looking for the confidence to get out of the car and onto the saddle? If so, join us for a guided street cycle around Wexford town to help you build your cycling confidence. Bring your own bike, or use the Bolt bike-share scheme. This is a great way to familiarise yourself with the main cycling routes around Wexford town and chat with like-minded people over a coffee and a bun. Starting at St Peter’s Square, along School St & John St, down Hill St, Redmond Square, along the Quay, King St, finishing at Kellys Corner Food Yard. RAINBOW BIKE DECORATING WORKSHOP
Bring your bike (or scooter) and a helmet to Gorey Library for a fun bike decorating workshop with Clare! We will use mainly repurposed materials to decorate our bikes in all the colours of the rainbow. Bring your colourful bike along to the park the next day for Gorey Bike Fest, and be in with a chance of winning a prize for Best Dressed Wheels! This event is suitable for children aged 5-12. Accompanying grown-ups are welcome to decorate their bikes too! BIKE FEST AND FAMILY SLOW ROLL IN GOREY TOWN PARK
A fun morning with bike themed events in Gorey Town Park, including a short Family Slow Roll in Gorey town in association with Gorey Pedestrian and Cycle Association. Slow bike race; prizes for best dressed bike; face painting. Balance Bike Buddies will also be on hand to teach some basic cycling skills to younger children. Attendees are encouraged to ‘Bling your bike or sparkle your scooter,’ using ribbons, flags, repurposed materials and other items, to be in with a chance of winning a cycling-themed prize. Slow and steady will be the name of the game in the ‘Slow Bicycle Race,’ where participants in adult and child categories will compete to beat the slowest time and win a cycling-themed prize. A highlight of Gorey Bike Fest is a “Slow Roll,” a fun all-ages cycle from the park to the town centre and back again (2.5km). Everyone taking part will receive a refreshment voucher for The Coffee Pod. Children must be accompanied by an adult and all participants must wear a helmet and high vis. Time: 11am to 1pm Date: Sunday 10th May Location: Gorey Town Park and local streets of Gorey, Co. Wexford Suitability: Competent cyclists only on the Slow Roll as this takes place on the public streets. Children must be accompanied by an adult (on wheels!) at all times. No booking required. |

SOUTH-EAST GREENWAY COMMUNITY CYCLE
Join us for a leisurely cycle on the South East Greenway. Starting from the greenway car park in Rosbercon, New Ross and heading towards Glenmore, the cycle will be at a relaxed pace, taking in the beautiful scenery of the Barrow valley. Refreshments will be served afterwards in Rosbercon. No bike? No problem! Limited adult bikes available to borrow (must book in advance when registering online). Date: Sunday 10th May Time: 3pm to 5pm Location: Greenway car park, Rosbercon, New Ross Suitability: Children must be accompanied by an adult (on wheels!) at all times. LEARN TO CYCLE PARK, ENNISCORTHY
This unique public cycling facility is open to everybody and is a great venue to learn how to cycle and become familiar with the layout of junctions, crossings and roundabouts. Students of Gaelscoil Inis Córthaidh will be using the park on Tuesday 12th and St Aidan’s Primary School on Thursday 14th. Expert cycling tuition will be provided by Shielbaggan Outdoor Education Centre. |

BIKE WEEK STORYTIME & CRAFT AT WEXFORD LIBRARY
Celebrate Bike Week with story time and hands‑on arts and crafts session for children aged 6–9! Young creatives will design colourful bike-themed artworks, get crafty making handle- bar streamers and your very own bike reflector! enjoy a fun, relaxed session full of imagination and creativity. An experienced bike mechanic will be on hand to demonstrate how to maintain your bike and keep it in tip-top condition. Topics include puncture repairs, “M check” technique, adjusting gears and brakes, best cleaning methods and anything else you want to ask! Join us in Enniscorthy Library as we celebrate Bike Week with a fun bicycle themed storytime and craft session! Children will enjoy some fun stories about cycling and make a bike-themed craft to bring home, as well as receiving a FREE Bike Week goodie bag! Perfect for 4-7 years old but fun for everyone! Through the magic of storytelling, children are transported to far-off lands, introduced to diverse characters, and exposed to a rich tapestry of language, all while developing fundamental literacy skills such as vocabulary acquisition, comprehension, and phonological awareness. FOULKSMILLS FAMILY FUN CYCLE
5km fun cycle starting and finishing in Foulksmills Park. Refreshments afterwards in the park. Cyclists must wear a helmet and hi vis and all children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. BIODIVERSITY BIKE RIDE GOREY
Join us for a fun bike ride and learn what we have and how we can do so much more to protect Nature in Gorey! To celebrate the cross-over between Bike Week and Biodiversity Week, for the third year runnning Gorey Pedestrian and Cycling Association will be hosting a Biodiversity Bike Ride through Gorey Town. With a new route for 2026, our guide this year will be Alan Poole. Alan is a dairy farmer in Co Wexford, with a passion for nature and the environment. Alan has an honours degree in Environmental Science and a PhD in conservation Zoology. You can find out more about the work Alan does here: www.poolebioschool.ie We'll make stops at several key biodiversity sites and explore how we can both appreciate and protect the Nature that surrounds us. Suitable for competent cyclists age 10+ grab your bike, your curiosity, and let's pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future!
