You’re Invited to Gorey Market House Public Open Days Public Open Days at Gorey Market House – 23rd & 24th May

Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District, on behalf of Wexford County Council, warmly invites you to visit the historic Gorey Market House on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th May from 11am to 4pm for a unique opportunity to step inside the building as part of the “Past, Present and Future” experience — a final look before its exciting transformation begins.

These open days mark the final chance for the public to view the Market House as it stands today, ahead of the removal of items and the official start of the Gorey Market House Regeneration Project. We invite you to take a moment to walk through the space, reflect on its rich history, and look ahead with us to its exciting future as a vibrant hub for community life in Gorey.

As part of this regeneration, we are documenting what the Market House means to the people of Gorey — capturing its legacy and the deep connections held by generations who have lived, worked, or gathered in and around this iconic space.

Each day at 12pm, local historian Willie Willoughby of the North Wexford Historical Society will deliver a Historical Talk, sharing the fascinating stories behind the building — from the lives of those who worked and lived here, to the important role it played in Gorey’s commercial and civic life.

During the event, we’ll be recording video to help tell that story — gathering the voices, memories, and reflections of our community. Events like this are essential for preserving the spirit of the Market House and envisioning how it can continue to serve Gorey as a welcoming space to gather, connect, and celebrate community life.

If you — or someone you know — has a link to the Market House, whether through work, family, or fond memories, we would be especially delighted to see you there and hear your story.

We’ve already begun interviewing community members connected to the project, and we look forward to sharing these stories with you throughout the regeneration journey — so stay tuned!

This project is proudly co-funded by the Government of Ireland, the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 2021–2027, and Wexford County Council.

Let’s come together to honour the past and welcome the future of Gorey Market House.

Join us on the 23rd or 24th May and be part of this new chapter in our town’s story. 🌟
